General-semantics.
(Taken from Dapper #36 TellTales #17.) An incorrect unsubstantial superficial commentary on general-semantics as obtained by viewing web pages refering to the derivates of the original works of A. Korzybski. Now that's a disclaimer, if anything :-) (I'm moving out of my league here, I guess I will get repeatedly slapped by Thomas, but then again... it's worth it.) I'm always a bit surprised at the lack of 'outraged' response to some of my statements. Over the years I've found out that I have rather 'outspoken' ideas on several issues... Although I change my mind if someone or something convinces me. Let's have a look at it, pragmatic as we are...

General-semantics.
(Uit Dapper #36 TellTales #17.) Een incorrect niet substantieel en oppervlakkig commentaar op general-semantics zoals verkregen door het bekijken van web paginas welke referen naar de afgeleiden van het oorspronkelijke werk van A. Korzybski. Hoezo disclaimer? :-) (Ik ga hier buiten m'n vakgebied, en ik denk dat ik meerdere malen door Thomas zal worden afgeschoten, maar ja... dat is het waard.) Ik ben altijd een beetje verbaasd dat er zo weinig 'boze' respons komt op een aantal van mijn uitspraken. In de afgelopen jaren heb ik gemerkt dat ik er enkele 'uitgesproken' meningen op na houd... Hoewel ik mijn mening verander als iemand of iets mij overtuigd. Laten
we er eens naar kijken, pragmatisch als we zijn...

Dapper
is a fan magazine, and as such not the most adequate vehicle to discuss
philosphy for the masses :-) Although I consider the Dapper crowd to be
above average, of course, if only due to shared interests :-)

subject at hand: general-semantics. (I guess I talked about it before in
Dapper, or didn't I? Hmmm...)
General-semantics has had my attention for quite a few years now. Ever after buying _Null-A_ by A.E. van Vogt. I liked the story, but was even more impressed by one of the ideas behind it. Null-A, non Aristotelism, general-semantics. The question, as usual, is: how serious should one take it? It certainly wouldn't be the first bogus pseudo-science to appear. Even more: there's Dianetics and Scientology involved. So... is general-semantics any better? What
is the truth anyway? Read on...

General-semantics heeft al een aantal jaren mijn aandacht. Eigenlijk sinds de aanschaf van het boek _Null-A_ door A.E. van Vogt. Ik vond het een leuk verhaal, maar was meer onder de indruk van een idee achter het verhaal. Null-A, non Aristotelisme, general-semantics. De vraag, zoals gewoonlijk, is: hoe serieus moet je zoiets nemen? Het zou zeker niet de eerste pseudo wetenschap. Erger nog: Dianetics en Scientology lijken er iets mee te maken te hebben. Dus... is general-semantics ook maar iets beter? Wat
